I want to clarify a few items before I get into the write up for the first week. First item is that your quota for Week One was the quota you ended with last year. Yes, some people are playing better and some people are playing worse than their quota but as the first few weeks are played the quotas will fall into place. Second item is that when I said you could choose your tee box I failed to mention that if you are 9 or above for a quota you can only choose COMBO,BLUE or GOLD tees. If you are an 8 or below you can choose WHITE, COMBO,BLUE or GOLD tees. Once they are chosen you are locked into them for the year. Finally with the size of the league could you use last name on the card because we have a few Mo Larry and Curly’s  in this league. It would really help out TJ and me.

As the great Mayor Barry wrote last year  “ Did everyone get the memo? We're bursting at the seams this year with 70 players, but for some reason, had 34 no shows on opening night. Do we have some no-tell dropouts or were people afraid of the 60% chance of rain at 5pm. Of the 36 golfers who played half of them out scored their quota.

Individual Play -  Mike Silva was a solid 5 over his average and Chuck Mathieson was right on his tail with a plus 4. In a card off between Mike Wall, Dave Finnegan and myself, I was able to prevail with a par on 1 for third

Team Play - Mike Silva +5 and Ronnie Duff -1 took first place.   Team of Rookie Paul Cahill +1 and myself +2 took second place with a +3  in a card off over Mike Wall+2/ alternate TJ+1 and Greg Willard+1/ Dave Finnegan+2. Mike Wall+2/ alternate TJ+1 then won a card off against Greg Willard+1/ Dave Finnegan+2 for third place.

(With the league maintaining the same numbers of players as last year, we will continue to pay 3 places for Individual and Team unless numbers drop.)

With 19 points, Chuck Mathieson will take high pointer honors.

Closest to the Pin: With a great approach shot Mike Silva won the CPT with 2’10”

There were a total of 10 birdies on the front nine with 4 surviving: MIKE SILVA (2), BOBBY BOURNE (4), HASLAM(5)  and DEJESUS (8). Hole 6(M.Silva and Hranko) and 9 (Mathieson, Lozzi, Wall and Paone) were covered.

We had 19 entrants in the Back Nine skins pool WITH 7  birdies and 3 surviving, Ed Finn (14), Murphy (16) and TJ (18) will divvy up the $95 pot.

Welcome Back Letter

Ladies and Gentlemen

Welcome back to another Year of SIGL! As you know, most of those  years have been spent at Easton Country Club, Southern New England's premier wedding and golf destination and home to the two-time retired commissioner,  Larry”The Mayor”  Barry. I am not sure if anyone noticed but Larry Barry retired the same year as Tom “The Goat” Brady because I believe he wanted to be in the same Hall of Fame class as him.

In all seriousness,  I would like to thank Mayor Larry Barry for all the time and energy that he has  put into this league over the last 25 plus years. We have been fortunate that Larry has run the league the way that he did. I have some big shoes to fill, and I just hope that I am able to run the league as smoothly as he did. So, when you see him please be sure to say THANK YOU

Opening night is scheduled for Tuesday, April 26th  - weather permitting. With the size of the league you will need to book your tee time each week.

Tee times: Although you cannot reserve a team for the entire year, you can reserve the time one week ahead, So for instance, when you sign in next week for Week 1, be sure to reserve your Week 2 tee time then.

For those of you that have indicated that they have friends who want to join, they must contact me in order to sign up. There are limited spots, and they can't just show up on opening night. Have them contact us with name, phone number, and e-mail address.

For golfers who played in the league last year and are not playing the league this year please let me know so  I don’t turn anyone away.

Dues are $720 for the year ($29x20 + 140), which includes the birdie pool or $680 without the birdie pool. Dues for Easton C.C. members will be $140/$100. Please have the first half payment ($360/$340 or $70/$50) ready on the first night.

There is ONE MAJOR CHANGE  to the league this year. If you are paying by check you will need to make the check out to me, Greg Paone instead of SIGL. Larry and I were not able to switch the account from his name to my name due to some red tape. Larry can explain more if you want to know more about it.

The year-end tournament is  scheduled for  Sunday October 2, please keep in mind that the date has to be reserved early, and there are limited dates available due to Easton's heavy weekend tournament bookings. I understand conflicts happen but rescheduling the tournament will not be an option.

Thank you for your time. Feel free to contact me with any questions or if you are not going to be playing.

See you in April !

Greg
