Week 17 Recap – The Birdies, the Beasts, and the Barely-Hanging-On

Another week, another round of golf where scorecards looked more like tax returns—complicated, with a couple deductions nobody expected.

Individual Glory:
Chuck “Steady Eddy” Mathieson snuck off with 1st place (+9), proving once again that if you play boring golf, you win exciting prizes. Right behind him, Ted “the Birdie Assassin” Meyer swooped in for 2nd (+8), stealing the card-off on hole 7 with a birdie that left poor Kurt Sager muttering, “Birdies are for show, but bogeys are forever.”

Team Triumphs:
Ted wasn’t satisfied with just second place—he grabbed 1st Team honors too, pairing with Dan “Two-Stroke Special” Svirsky (+2). Meanwhile, Saul Payne (+5) and Jim Liddick (+3) cobbled together enough steady play to claim 2nd Team, probably fueled by shared snacks more than shared strategy.

Closest to the Pin:
Pete “Long Putts Only” Frasca dialed one in at 11’4”, just short enough to make everyone else say, “Well, at least I hit the green… somewhere.”

Skins Mayhem:
The Front 9 Skins turned into a buffet line, with Kurt Sager (hole 5), Mike Leonard (hole 6), and Ted Meyer (hole 7) loading up plates. In fact, every hole from 2 through 9 was covered like your grandma’s sofa—no freebies here.
On the Back 9, Ed “Quiet Collector” Susi pocketed holes 14 and 18, walking away with more cash than charisma.

Highlights from the Covered Holes:

  • Hole 2: Willard & Casey reminded everyone it’s possible to hit fairways without breaking a sweat.

  • Hole 3: Mathieson, Raynard, and Susi turned it into a traffic jam on the green.

  • Hole 4: Liddick, Silvia, and Silva (yes, two different guys—don’t ask) combined to confuse the scorekeeper.

  • Hole 9: Dow, Giffen, Mathieson, and Sager turned the green into a reunion party.

  • Hole 13: Finn, Mathieson, and Susi made it a three-man staring contest with the flagstick.

  • Hole 18: White, McNeice, and Susi finished strong, mostly to get to the bar.

Summary:
Week 17 had it all—birdies, card-offs, and more covered holes than a bad paving job. Chuck got the win, Ted played in everything except the concession stand, and Pete proved 11 feet really is “close” in this league.

Week 16 – The Chuck Show

Chuck Mathieson rolled into Week 16 like he’d just found the “cheat codes” for golf, posting a ridiculous +10 to take 1st place. He made so many birdies, the course superintendent is considering charging him rent on the greens.

Right behind him, Mike McNeice put up a strong +9, then took down Steve Leonard in a card-off on hole 7 — mostly because Steve was too busy daydreaming about his post-round beer. Mike wasn’t done, though — he dragged Eric Aronson (+6) to the 1st Team win, proving that sometimes it pays to just hang onto a hot player’s coattails.

The 2nd Team spot went to Leonard (+9) and Steve Dow (+4). When you have two Steves on a team, you either get chaos or magic — this week, it was somewhere in between.

Closest to the Pin was stolen by Scott Silvia at 3’1” — which is impressive, though Chuck probably would’ve just holed it out.

As for skins, Ed Susi decided to hog the spotlight, grabbing hole 9 and then coming back for more on 10, while Phil Richie and Dan Raymon sneaked in on 14 and 16. Holes 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 were completely locked down, meaning if you weren’t on the birdie list, you were just a tourist.

And speaking of the birdie list — it looked like half the league got in on it. McNeice, Leonard, Richie, Lagrasso, Mathieson, Sulmonte, Aronson, Urban, Sager, Schlosser, Daniels, Lograsso, McDermott, and Silva… basically, if you didn’t make one, you’re probably not reading this recap anyway.

Bottom line: Chuck owned Week 16, McNeice cashed twice, and Ed Susi may have to declare his skins haul on next year’s taxes.

Week 15 Golf Recap – 2025

Another week, another round of chaos on the course—Week 15 delivered drama, birdies, chip-ins, and more skins than a Vegas pool party.

🏆 Individual Glory

Rich Thomas took the top spot with a strong +7, proving steady play and a calm putter go a long way. Right behind him, Greg Willard clocked in at +6, keeping the pressure on and stacking up skins like a man with a second mortgage.

👬 Team Titans

1st Place Team
Jim Liddick (+4) and Mark Daniels (+3) teamed up like peanut butter and fairways—smooth, reliable, and just good enough to stay ahead.

2nd Place Team
George Kelley (+1) and Pete Frasca (+4) edged out a card-off win on hole 7, leaving Greg Willard and Brian Murphy wondering how they got leapfrogged.

🎯 Closest to the Pin

Joe Lagrosso dropped a dart to 3’9” and walked off with the CTP, probably still grinning and showing strangers at the bar his ball mark location.

💰 Front Side Skins ($25 Each)

  • Ted Meyers (Hole 4)

  • Greg Willard (Hole 5)

  • Ed Susi (Hole 7)

Holes 2 & 8 were covered but still handed out some feathers in caps.

💵 Back Side Skins

  • Paul Sully (Hole 10 – yes, another chip-in)

  • Saul Payne (Hole 14)

  • Bob Loring (Hole 15)

Holes 13 & 18 got scooped up by solid birdie play as well.

🐦 Birdie Watch

While some holes saw tumbleweeds, others lit up like the Fourth of July:

  • Hole 2: McDermott, Lograsso, Finnegan, M. Leonard

  • Hole 4: Ted Meyers

  • Hole 5: Greg Willard

  • Hole 7: Ed Susi

  • Hole 8: Liddick, G. Willard, Schlosser

  • Hole 10: Paul Sully (chip-in king strikes again)

  • Hole 13: Sager, Sully, Mathieson

  • Hole 14: Saul Payne

  • Hole 15: Bob Loring

  • Hole 18: Finn, Loring

No love for Holes 1, 3, 6, 9, 11, 12, 16, or 17—either they’re cursed or we’re all afraid of commitment on the green.
